In remote Bhutan, an undercover detective investigates the case of a missing Buddhist nun and falls into a risky alliance with his only suspect- an alluring young woman known as the village “demoness.” In this "Buddhist noir" film, a detective's search for the "truth" unravels a web of magic, greed, compassion and dakinis (enlightened Buddhist women of great power and wisdom).

Director: Dechen Roder

Born in 1980 (Bumthang Bhutan), Dechen is one of the few filmmakers from the kingdom of Bhutan. She started off making small documentaries and videos in 2004, most of which have been aired on Bhutan television. She founded her own production company in 2009 and in 2015 made her short film "Lo Sum Choe Sum" which competed in the Berlinale shorts and many other festivals around the world.

That same year she started production of her debut feature- Honeygiver Among the Dogs. The film was loosely inspired by stories of dakinis which her mother told her when she was younger, and the desire to bring more stories to light, through a creative and unique form. Described as a "Buddhist noir" Honeygiver was premiered in Busan International Film Festival and later screened in Berlin and other festivals around the world. The film will be theatrically releaesed in France in October 2018 and has already had theatrical runs in Poland and Bhutan.

Dechen is now developing her second feature- I, the Song, which participated recently in the Asian Project Market in Busan International Film Festival. When Dechen is not working on her own projects she works on commissioned projects as a producer/director/writer and visual editor. She is also the co-founder and co-organizer of Beskop Tshechu, the first film festival in Bhutan.
